A great primer and reference text for simulation modelling

Whether you are attempting Monte Carlo simulation for the first time or have plenty of practical experience, Vose's book is the best text available.

Vose has done a great job providing a brief but solid introduction to probability and statistics. It also serves as a great practical reference for the details and applications of all of the commonly used probability distribution functions.

He expertly summarizes each of the main steps a modeller will face in developing a model, providing very practical examples with helpful figures illustrating exactly how to implement the example in a spreadsheet.

The introduction could be improved by describing the context of his book, largerly directed towards cost analysis of projects, in the very broad field of Quantiative Risk Analysis. If I could add a section to the book, I would devote a chapter to common errors committed by the novice modeller. Minor criticisms aside, I do not hesitate in recommending this book as a reference for experts. I think it provides the fastest route up the learning curve for the novice modeller.

An excellent introduction to risk analysis

Vose's book "Quantitative Risk Analysis; A Guide to Monte Carlo Simulation Modelling" is an excellent introduction to practical quantitative risk analysis.

The book is written in a clear and concise style, refreshing to read and easy to assimilate. The text is practical and techniques are illustrated with useful, practical examples.The book has proven immensely useful in my work.

The text is marred by a number of typographical errors, 9 by my count. These typos are a reflection on the typesetting and editing rather than on the technical value of this excellent book.

I have no hesitation in recommending Vose's "Quantitative Risk Analysis" to anyone who wants to learn about the application of Monte Carlo simulation modelling to problems of risk analysis.

An excellent guide and primer - clear and concise.

This text provides an excellent primer for those interested in the field of Monte Carlo modelling, but without a strong background in mathematics/statistics. The text is extremely concise and well expressed, and leads the reader through each aspect of quantitative risk analysis without burdening him/her with unnecessary detail nor explanation.
I believe that this book will prove to be tremendously useful for all those approaching the subject of quantitative risk analysis, or those who wish to be able to better understand the results of analyses conducted by others. Sam Beckett, Massey University, New Zealand

About the Author
Leon Chaitow ND DO is an internationally known and respected osteopathic and naturopathic practitioner and teacher of soft tissue manipulation methods of treatment. He is author of over 60 books, including a series on Advanced Soft Tissue Manipulation (Muscle Energy Techniques, Positional Release Techniques, Modern Neuromuscular Techniques) and also Palpation Skills; Cranial

He is editor of the peer reviewed Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies, that offers a multidisciplinary perspective on physical methods of patient care. Leon Chaitow was for many years senior lecturer on the Therapeutic Bodywork degree courses which he helped to design at the School of Integrated Health, University of Westminster, London, where is he now an Honorary Fellow. He continues to teach and practice part-time in London, when not in Corfu, Greece where he focuses on his writing.

Sandy Fritz, MS, LMT is the Owner, Director, and Head Educator of the Health Enrichment Center, Inc., School of Therapeutic Massage. Also in private practice for almost 30 years, Sandy works with a diverse clientele, dealing with everything from stress management massage to physician-referred rehabilitative care upon physician referral. She has developed and supervises a student massage clinic with the Detroit Lions of the National Football League. While they are enjoying a scrumptious meal, the dragon sneezes a fiery sneeze, and flames shoot up from the tablecloth and curtains. The child's new friend panics and tries to hide, but she keeps her cool and helps to get him and her family out of the house safely. The rhyming text has an infectious cadence that should appeal to youngsters. The colored-pencil illustrations are bright and follow the story line well. Tips are appended for teachers and/or parents to use in helping children learn what to do in case of a fire in their homes. In addition, "The Dragon's Fire-Safety Rhyme" helps reinforce the primary rules. A unique way to introduce a very important subject.

This rhyming picture book, subtitled ``Fire Safety for Kids (and Dragons),'' takes a low-key but effective approach to the serious topic of fire safety. A girl invites a dragon home to tea. Pepper on the pickle causes the problem: ``Then the dragon's nose twitched, and he started to wheeze. His eyes misted up, and he blew a great sneeze. A-A-A-Choooooo! . . . Flames shot from his mouth and from both nostrils too.'' The dragon wants to hide under the rug, but the girl wisely drags him outside while her mother goes next door to call the fire department. The fire fighters, men and women, put out the blaze and praise the child for following fire safety rules. Softly colored drawings help convey the message without frightening the children for whom the story is intended. An attractive, useful volume. A unique way to introduce a very important subject.

This clever rhyming story is effective in conveying the rules of fire safety to children. Colorful illustrations clearly depict correct responses to an emergency situation. At the back of the book is an easy-to-learn safety rhyme and a fire safety checklist for parents and teachers to discuss with their children. This excellent book should be in every home and school library. Highly recommended.

(This book) has just the right combination of fact, fun and fantasy to help your little one understand what to do in a fire emergency ... This story is perfect for role-playing. your children will enjoy acting out every scene from the tea-party to the firefighters’ actions. This kind of play may some day save your children’s lives.

A girl finds herself in the middle of a fire when her new friend (who happens to be a dragon) sneezes ... The girl is obviously well schooled inn fire safety, knows just what to do. The dragon, however makes some mistakes. He hides under the rug, then once he gets outside, he wants to go back for his stuffed bear. The girl sets him straight. “Don’t ever go back — that just will not do. We can get a new bear, but we can’t replace you.” Humourous colored pencil illustrations accompany the lively rhyming text, which ends with a catchy fire safety poem that kids can easily memorize to help them remember basic fire – safety rules. An entertaining way to teach or reinforce fire safety concepts, this will come in handy during fire-awareness wee.

This book was amazing! My favorite fire safety book that I've come across. I loved reading it, my fellow teacher loved it, and most important, the kids loved it. It has a really cute story, with some rhyming, which was great. We'll be using the rhyme from the back of the book long past when we'll have the book out for the kids to read.

Fantastic Book

When the Fire Department came to visit my Kindergarten class, the officer read this book to my class. I knew I definitely wanted to have it in my books to read this year for my new class. They were still talking about it weeks later and some of them were role playing at recess the actions of the dragon. Such a positive message presented in such a kid friendly way.

Adorable book!

This is a great fire safety book. It deals with the scary event of a fire in a home. The dragon accidentally starts it by sneezing. It is great because it gives kids the understanding of fire safety in the home but by having the dragon start the fire it takes some of the scariness away. I love the emphasis on there being only one you so getting yourself safe is the priority!

Informative and easy to follow format

This is geared towards getting your kids to eat plant based meals, but I think it is helpful for all of us.

We live in a world where there are so many by-products, hormones and chemicals used in our food, no wonder we have become so unhealthy.

I enjoyed this book because it gives helpful advice without being preachy or pushy or shoving things down your throat. (Pardon the pun.)

Easy to read and follow. I highly recommend young and old, if you are interested in adding more plant based meals to your life.

Quick and Simple- like Samwise

Short and sweet, and the price was right. I quick view of one of Tolkien's favorite characters. I used to think it was Bilbo, but Tolkien was a married man with several children and a staunch Roman Catholic- the childless Bilbo was able to go off on adventures, as was Frodo, because to a man that cherished his family it would be irresponsible to wander off and leave them to fend for themselves. Notice also that Sam had yet to really court Rosie properly before he took off as well. Also, many have noted that Tolkien introduced us to Bildo, a bachelor, and left us with Sam returning to his now home- Bag End- to Rosie and little Eleanor. Tolkien closed the story as he wanted it to end, and Samwise was one of his chosen vehicles to illustrate his idea that the big and powerful may start grand things but it is the courage and steadfastness of the small and simple, like Samwise, that really get things done. A good read and good thoughts for anybody wanting to find a simple guide in this busy, orcish world.

Excellent Read!

I found this book when searching for the Kindle version of Lord of the Rings. I was getting ready for a big trip and looking for something to kill time in the airports and on the plane. Saw the title and it intrigued me, and the price definitely right (free). Downloaded it, and when I actually got around to reading it I was astounded! It wasn't a long read, but it was very insightful. Filled with wit and wisdom! I think I must have highlighted half the book due to quotes and ideas I wanted to remember so I could reference them later. I wish they had this book in paper form, I would gladly pay for it!
