It's a math book, but that's where good things I have to say end.

I really wanted to like this book since I value a concise approach, but I think it fails to lay a solid foundation for understanding (at least multivariable) calculus. I'm only familiar with Ch.10-13 because it was required for a calc 3 class. The problem with its approach is that it quickly explains new concepts, making sense only half the time, then launches into examples where it skips important logical steps in problem setup. Stating a problem and then immediately writing the relevant theorem without any discussion doesn't teach "mathematically rigorous" thinking as so many instructors seem to love Stewart for, and it doesn't lay the foundation for creative application of the concepts in physics.

If you have to get this book for a class, sorry. Watching Khan Academy videos was helpful for me, just know that Sal doesn't cover stuff in the same order as the book or most classes, and doesn't give much attention to difficult double/triple integral problems (something this book gets lost in while glossing over some of the concepts).

If you're looking for a self-study book, this is definitely not it because it's hard enough to understand with the help of a professor. Plus the problems are generally uninteresting and avoid challenging the reader with physics applications. There are plenty of resources online for self-studying math so track down one of those for better recommendations.

Must read marketing guide for new businesses

I've heard the term guest blogging before, but the barrier to entry seemed so high (in my mind) that I've never considered it. Until now. Mike Fishbein's book is a clearly laid out marketing plan for new businesses, and he walks through the concept of guest blogging step by step. This book covers the basics of SEO, lays out exactly what guest blogging is, how it can affect traffic to your own website, how it compares to traditional PR, how to find sites looking for guest bloggers, and what to write about. The book does a fantastic job taking the nebulous concept into something concrete and doable. I'm still a bit intimated by the idea, but so much less so than before I read the book. When you start your own business, you are responsible for everything, marketing included, and rich, meaningful how-to guides are an entrepreneur's best friend. This is such a guide. Fishbein also provides a ton of resources throughout the book, so whether you need to back track to get caught up, or want to move ahead, he's got a path for you to follow.

The dumbest textbook ever

If your instructor uses this textbook's question pool to to test you, get ready to memorize thousands of, often times, useless definitions to answer questions of the following type:

There are several types of EC. Transactions between businesses and consumers (B2C) are known as:

business-to-customer.
business-to-consumer.
business-to-controller.
business-to-carrier.

Each chapter is basically 50 pages of definitions without sufficient context or application, not the mention the totally outrageous price the authors charge for it. The worst class and textbook ever!

Review of “AMAZING ADVENTURES OF THE TRAMP PRINCE: A Philosophic Fantasy”
In “AMAZING ADVENTURES OF THE TRAMP PRINCE: A Philosophic Fantasy”, the author, Hobo Jack Sophir, pokes fun at society and at all types of people in society while presenting his philosophies of smoking, drinking, healthful eating, war, social contract, responsibility, fun, the meaning of friendship, and more. Tramp Prince is always helped because he first helps others, a fact that may not be so obvious but is tremendously truthful about the way people react. The interactions always lead to important philosophical dialog in which points are made by both Tramp Prince and the people he meets. Hobo Jack has an awesome ear for every accent conceivable and an uncanny ability to spell them. While there are a couple of tragic episodes (never fear, good comes of them), this book is written in a mostly light-hearted manner and with much imagination, attention to detail, knowledge of the world, and understanding of topics close to Hobo Jack’s heart, making “AMAZING ADVENTURES OF THE TRAMP PRINCE: A Philosophic Fantasy” a delight to read indeed.

The Tramp Prince takes us on an adventurous journey through the land of the unknown, asking, “What is the meaning of life?” to everyone he meets along the way. Although each person answers differently, the Tramp Prince collects these words of wisdom and summarizes them into his own view of how he sees the world. From his viewpoint, the world is corrupt with hatred, waste, nutritional deficiencies, loneliness, and ect. His best friend, a toad in his pocket, probably lives better than most of the people he meets, since he’s given the ability to converse telepathically with the Tramp Prince. This book takes you on a journey that will have you asking what’s really important to you in your everyday life.

A lovely little fantasy written by a real life character. Hobo Jack's philosophical musings provide a welcome interlude from the self-obsessed, media-driven world of today. "Amazing Adventures of the Tramp Prince" is a thoughtful tome whose only short-coming is leaving the reader wanting more. Are you listening, Jack?

Ideal to improve your English, even if you think you knew it all!

I am a rather new author and published my first book in 2012. Many people were surprised my English was "so good"... Indeed, I am not a native English speaker but it is true English has become my normal vehicle in my professional life. As such I am fully aware I always have a lot to learn to improve myself. This book perfectly fits the bill. It is pleasant to read while I tell myself often ... gosh ... I did not know this... I guess I will have to keep it under my pillow...

I liked the book very much

The book is well written and well structured. Author tried to be as clear as possible in his exposition - every article contains an example of a mistake and its corrected version. Care is taken to track differences between British and American English. All in all, I liked the book very much. I found a few mistakes not covered though (maybe these weren't considered to be the most common).

He has worked for Rand McNally Canada and for Esri, where he developed cartography for books, and edited and tested GIS workbooks. He continues to work with GIS software, writing technical documentation, teaching training courses, and designing and optimizing user interfaces.

Outstanding for a self-taught course in GIS

I just completed a graduate course in GIS and remote sensing, and we used this book as the basic guide to using GIS. Prior to this, I had always relied on other people to "make maps" for me. Now I am not only making my own maps, but also using GIS to perform many different types of analysis for my job. This book was key to that - the course I took didn't really cover much GIS in the class materials - that was focused mostly on remote sensing and researching what others have done with GIS. I've sat through probably a half-dozen GIS "workshops" over the years and never really learned anything. Taking your time with this book, and no one standing over your shoulder and telling you which buttons to click, is really the best way to learn. I liked this book so much I ordered 10 more for my staff, and 9 of them have now completed it, too, and are working on their projects to earn the certificate from me that they have mastered basic ArcGIS use. I've now got a backlog of 15 other employees who want to be in on the next round of training! Very highly recommended!

Perfect. Exactly what I was looking for.

I needed a quick study guide (lesson) on map building in ArcGIS.
This was perfect. It prepared me for a job interview.

Be careful about starting your 6 month license. Be sure to start it
on the CPU you will have continued access to. You can not un-install
and then re-install on another computer.

Great book for getting familiar with ArcGIS 10.1 and as a reference for the features it covers

This book provides a good overall view of ArcGIS with accurate examples, with an exception to chapter 19. The chapter topics are arranged in a logical order and build on previous chapters although the supplied data allows a user to skip chapters if desired. It does not dilute the content by attempting to cover every tool and feature in ArcGIS but can serve as a good reference for the topics it does include.it took me about a month to work through the book and I feel I have a good foundatin from which to continue exploring the software. I will look to ESRI Press for other publications.
