Review
"If you read just one book on PR, read this. In an industry full of self-important bogus theory and pretension, Morris and Goldsworthy tell it how it really is. Worth more than any number of lectures. Buy it."--Francis Ingham, Director General, The Public Relations Consultants Association (PRCA)

"Whether you're trying to find your first job in PR or trying to make sense of your next one, read this. It's refreshingly honest, fast paced and highly readable. Sometimes we spend so much time worrying about the change in our industry we forget what a great place it is to work. Reading this will remind you."--Sally Costerton, Chairman and CEO, Hill & Knowlton Europe

"PR advice from an expert academic is a great grounding for a career. Advice from someone who has been at the top of the industry is the best way of building your career. This book brings both together. It's a winning combination and well worth the money."--Paul Mylrea, Head of Press & Media Relations, BBC and President Elect, Chartered Institute for Public Relations

"An opinionated textbook with an authentic voice; this book is an indispensible primer for PR students and new practitioners."--Trish Evans, Course Leader PR, University of Westminster

"Public Relations Today' is a great resource for those studying PR, entering the industry or just wanting to get on in their PR career. It demonstrates the complexities of the industry and huge variety of opportunities available to practitioners. It dispels the myths of PR and demonstrates how it has developed to become a strategic profession as practitioners increasingly counsel those who lead organisations. The authors demonstrate a wealth of knowledge and experience as well as links with some of the most revered practitioners in the industry, providing the reader with a fantastic insight into the exciting world of public relations."--Lucy Laville, Course Leader PR, Leeds Met University

"Candid, incisive and formidably well organised. A serious attempt to describe the field as it is, rather than how PR practitioners would like to imagine it to be."--John Tulloch, Head Licoln School of Journalism, University of Lincoln

The Oxford Handbook of Shakespeare's Poetry (Oxford Handbooks), by Jonathan Post

The Oxford Handbook of Shakespeare's Poetry contains thirty-eight original essays written by leading Shakespeareans around the world. Collectively, these essays seek to return readers to a revivified understanding of Shakespeare's verbal artistry in both the poems and the drama. The volume understands poetry to be not just a formal category designating a particular literary genre but to be inclusive of the dramatic verse as well, and of Shakespeare's
influence as a poet on later generations of writers in English and beyond. Focusing on a broad set of interpretive concerns, the volume tackles general matters of Shakespeare's style, earlier and later; questions of influence from classical, continental, and native sources; the importance of words, line, and rhyme
to meaning; the significance of songs and ballads in the drama; the place of gender in the verse, including the relationship of Shakespeare's poetry to the visual arts; the different values attached to speaking 'Shakespeare' in the theatre; and the adaptation of Shakespearean verse (as distinct from performance) into other periods and languages. The largest section, with ten essays, is devoted to the poems themselves: the Sonnets, plus 'A Lover's Complaint', the narrative poems, Venus and
Adonis and The Rape of Lucrece, and 'The Phoenix and the Turtle'. If the volume as a whole urges a renewed involvement in the complex matter of Shakespeare's poetry, it does so, as the individual essays testify, by way of responding to critical trends and discoveries made during the last three
decades.

Don't Bother
By Readz Alot
I must echo the previous review. This guide is a complete waste of money. It has shrunk from over 900 pages to about 500, and much of that is back-ground and cultural information. (And it would be even smaller if they hadn't decided, for reasons unknown, to include 40 pages on Morocco -- a country which boasts its very own 500 page guidebook.)
There is no coverage at all of Mali, Niger or Guinea, due to the current dangers of traveling there.

And rather than, sensibly, devoting more pages and more detailed coverage to those countries that CAN be visited safely, those chapters are much smaller than in previous editions -- typically about half the size. (15 pages on Gambia; 20 on Benin vs. 30 and 40 in the last edition.)Given that West Africa is a part of the world where good travel info is hard to find on the internet (few hotels, except the top of the line ones, have websites, there are few reviews on travel sites), this is a part of the world where travelers are going to need to still rely on the printed word, and where LP could have, and should have, stepped up to the plate.

If they didn't feel it safe or worthwhile to visit West Africa, they shouldn't have bothered with this new edition at all.

Lonely Planet Shouldn't Have Bothered...
By David Lester Singleton
This guidebook is a piece of crap, to be frank. LP has removed most of the useful info like most maps and dropped many smaller destinations completely. Much of the info (especially in the Ghana section) is quite incorrect. Use a different guidebook.

I have to agree with the others. There isn't ...
By gwarak
I have to agree with the others. There isn't a lot of information in this book. Don't even buy it if your looking for information on Guinea, Mali or Niger. Those chapters only have a few pages of cultural and historical information due to "few travelers" heading to those countries.
